The next HPC User Forum meeting that will take place April 20-22, 2009 at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center, Roanoke, Virginia.
The main application theme of the Roanoke meeting is the use of HPC for product design, development and testing. We will also have technical panel sessions on storage and I/O interconnects, compilers, and alternative processors. And we will have speakers to talk about HPC government funding prospects, the HPC market revenue outlook and forecasts, and IDC research findings on the attributes HPC users/ buyers are most willing to pay premium pricing for. And as always we will have a number of user and vendor updates on their HPC activities. READ MORE

VT Profs to speak at HPC Adoption 2009
CS Professors Kirk Cameron and Wu Feng are both invited speakers at this year's Technology Venture Forum. The HPC Adoption Conference runs from May 11-13 in Burlingame, CA. Link is HERE.

VT Hits Big at SuperComputing 2008
Once again the fearless researchers of Hokie High Performance Computing hit the road for SC ! We had another great booth this year and participated in two workshops (Petascale Data Storage & Ultrascale Visualization) and a BOF session (Green500 list). In addition, there were three research papers and two posters published by VT faculty and students; Gabriel Martinez of VT CS received the Best Undergraduate Poster Award.

Summer Short Course in Blacksburg, VA
FDI: Using Virginia Tech HPC
This hands-on summer track (May 26, 27, 28) will introduce participants to the systems and resources available for High-Performance Computing at Virginia Tech, including shared and distributed memory systems, the VT and TeraGrid allocation process, compilers and flags for VT HPC, submitting jobs to the queuing systems, OpenMP and OpenMPI programming basics, debuggers, and visualization tools. This course will give practical skills for scaling research to VT's HPC infrastructure. Academic support staff and graduate teaching assistants are also welcome.
