Application Software

For Research Computing
at Virginia Tech

A variety of software applications are available at Virginia Tech to enable you to complete your research.

Information Technology Acquisitions  distributes a variety of site licensed and volume discounted software to VT affliates. For a complete list, visit the following links or contact ITA at 540-231-5444 or software@vt.edu.

  • departments, faculty, staff software
  • student software

Additional software is available for purchase through the University Bookstore, for use in the VT Computing Labs, and for use on the University Compute Servers Inferno and Dante.

The following information is a work in progress and summarizes current knowledge (see Latest Revision Date) of research computing software applications which are available for use at Virginia Tech.  Note that the links associated with the software product names will take you to the vendor's web site;  if there is Virginia Tech written documentation for the product, it will be listed in product description.

Note:  When "Inferno" is listed below, the application is available on Inferno, Inferno2, and Cauldron;  when "Inferno2" is listed, the application is currently available only on Inferno2.
