Calvin J. Ribbens

Cal Ribbens is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Virginia Tech and is a member of the Research Computing Advisory Committee. He chairs the System X Allocation Committee, and co-leads the Center for High-End Computing Systems (CHECS), a research center that collaborates closely with VTARC and with users of VTARC resources.

Dr. Ribbens received his Ph.D. in computer science in 1986 from Purdue University. His advisor was Professor John Rice, founding editor of ACM Transactions on Mathematical Software. Dr. Ribbens has been a computer science faculty member since 1987 and has served as Associate Department Head since 2003.

His research interests are in parallel and high performance computing, and numerical algorithms, software, and environments for large-scale scientific applications.
